Before we dive in

Pokémon GO is a mobile game in which you find and catch Pokémon while exploring. Seasonal events change which creatures appear and add temporary rewards. A costume is an event-specific appearance, giving collectors another version to look for.

A GO Pass is a reward track: collect GO Points to increase your rank and unlock items. Its free and paid versions offer different rewards. The pass deadline can differ from the event itself, so keep both dates in mind.

The update

Pokémon GO is dressing up for Halloween again. This year’s first event combines new costumes, tappable surprises, and a reward track that continues after Part I ends.

Part I runs October 27 at 10 a.m. through November 1 at 10 a.m., local time. Pikachu wears a hat and capelet, Zubat gets a top hat, and Sinistea wears a bow. Pikachu and Sinistea appear in one-star raids.

Tapping spooky surprises may produce encounters or candy. At pass Rank 10, catching gives double candy; Rank 20 unlocks double Stardust. Deluxe raises those bonuses to triple.

The Halloween pass runs through November 5 at 8 p.m.; rewards must be claimed by November 7 at 8 p.m., local time. Deluxe costs US$7.99, or US$9.99 with ten extra ranks, with regional availability varying.
