Before we dive in

Pokémon GO is a mobile game built around finding Pokémon and visiting locations in the real world. Max Battles are a separate battle activity at Power Spots, using a resource called Max Particles.

The Lake Guardians are Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf. They are a trio rather than three versions of the same Pokémon. This event divides them by region, so the announcement is not promising access to the whole trio in one location.

The update

Pokémon GO is giving its Lake Guardians a dedicated battle afternoon. The event combines region-specific encounters with boosted resource collection, so where you play will determine which Pokémon appears.

The event runs October 24 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time. Uxie appears in Asia-Pacific, Mesprit in Europe and Africa, and Azelf in the Americas. For our U.S. readers, Azelf is the relevant encounter.

The Max Particle collection limit rises to 1,600. Power Spots offer eight times the usual particles, while exploration gives double particles and requires one-quarter of the usual adventure distance. Those bonuses help with the resource side of participating.

An optional paid ticket adds Timed Research for one Max Mushroom and 25,000 experience, double Max Battle experience, and a 6,400 particle collection limit. The source announcement does not specify a ticket price.
